Junior County Hockey

The first step on the Gloucestershire Player Pathway is the U14 Squads comprising of Year 8 and 9 players.
These are the main county squads for Gloucestershire.
There are 3 squads per gender ( U14s, U15s and U17s). The U14 squad will be a combined squad of U13 and U14 players, and the U17 squad will be a combined squad of U16 and U17 players.
A maximum of 20 players will be selected per squad + 2 goalkeepers, with the exception on the U14’s who will have a training squad of 25 from which a match day squad will be selected for each match.
The squad takes part in a West Hockey regional competition which runs throughout the season. The competition is split into two regions
- The North region is made up of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Avon
- The South region is made up of Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall
The winners of each region play in a regional final at the end of the season.

This is the tier above Junior County Hockey.
They run for the U15 age group (year 10) and above although exceptional younger players may be considered for inclusion by the Talent Academy.
There are 3 Talent Academies serving Gloucestershire, depending on where the player lives. They are based at:
- Stourport HC
- Team Bath Buccs
- Bristol
Nominations for Talent Academy can come from the player’s club or school. A nomination can be made at any time during the season.
Gloucestershire Hockey can nominate players to Talent Academy but prefers to act in an advisory role where possible.
